From Illinois’ 2025 class, one player that has continued to boost their recruiting stock is Jax Abalos. While the 6’7” wing was a bit of an unknown at this time last year, he has caught the attention of plenty of college coaches with his play with both Batavia High School and M14 Hoops.
Not only has Abalos gotten on the radar of plenty of division one programs but has also received his first pair of scholarship offers. Back over the summer both Bryant and Eastern Illinois offered the junior. In addition, Colorado State, Miami (OH), North Dakota State, and Wright State are the other schools who have been showing the most interest in him.
This past weekend he took a visit to one of these schools in North Dakota State. “Visit went great,” Abalos said about the trip to the Summit League program. “Took pictures in the jersey and all that.” Next up for him is a visit to Miami (OH) this week.
In addition to having good positional size and length, Abalos stands out with his shooting. The junior is a knock down catch and shoot player out on the perimeter. With his game he is looking to improve his athleticism and strength by adding ten to twenty pounds of muscle. On the court, Abalos is looking to improve his handle and become an even better shooter by hitting 50% of his threes. For his upcoming season at Batavia, Abalos is looking to win 25 games and make a deep playoff run.
