Just a few days after landing their second commitment in the class of 2024 in Elliot Cadeau, North Carolina and head coach Hubert Davis landed their third last night on Monday. This commitment was from James Brown. Brown is a 6’9” power forward/center of St. Rita High School in Chicago and plays with the Meanstreets program. He is currently the top ranked player in NY2LA’s 2024 rankings for Illinois as well as a top thirty national recruit.

Brown was offered this past summer by North Carolina in June. He then took his official visit to Chapel Hill in the middle of October.

Back in September, Brown cut his long list of offers to ten. As well to beating out archrival Duke, North Carolina also beat out Eastern Michigan, Howard, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin who were apart of his top ten. Other schools to have offered him included Arizona State, Florida, Georgia, Harvard, Indiana, Marquette, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, among others.

Over the past week, North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class has turned into the tops in the nation. While it is still early in the recruitment process for the junior class, the Tar Heels already have three commitments. Brown joins a pair of guard in top fifteen nationally ranked Elliot Cadeau and top seventy-five nationally ranked Drake Powell.
