One of the more relatively unknown but highly talented juniors in the Midwest is Ben Schwieger of Waubonsie High School (IL) and the Midwest Prospect Academy program. The 6’5” shooting guard started to attract the attention of plenty of college coaches this past summer.
Back in June, Schwieger picked up his first two scholarship offers from IUPUI and Robert Morris University (PA). There is a long list of schools that have reached out to him including Colgate, Colorado State, North Dakota, Purdue Fort Wayne, UIC, William & Mary, and Wright State. Additionally, he has taken a visit to Butler and will be taking one to Bradley this weekend.
When asked what he is looking for in a college, Schwieger stated “I’m looking for a good fit, a close team that feels like a family, a great culture with the school and basketball program. Overall a positive environment that I can thrive in academically and athletically.”
While there are plenty of strengths in his game, there are a couple aspects of his game that he is working on improving; ball handling and his physicality. The biggest strength to the lanky junior’s game lies in his shot making ability. “Some of my strengths are shot selection/shooting, court vision/passing, and moving without the ball.”
There are a pair of players in the NBA that Schwieger watches a lot to model his game on; Tyler Herro and Giannis Antetokounmpo. “I like Tyler for his shot and finishing ability and Giannis for his length and dominance. As good as they are, they strive to be better. Those are qualities I would like to mirror.”
Don’t be surprised to be hearing the name Ben Schwieger plenty once the high season starts. Schwieger and Waubonsie Valley get started on the 26th at the Batavia High School Invite.
