One of the best things about the overall fluid recruiting process and evaluation process are all the new names that burn up the social media headlines once they hit high school. In the same sense one of the worst things in all of sports is when injuries shut things down or slow the process. Sophomore PG Tamin Lipsey of Ames High School in Iowa has experience all of that already.
A highly talented physical 6-1 180 pound plus lead guard, Lipsey hails from the same high school as current NBA star Harrison Barnes who once graced our NY2LASPORTS.COM pages during the early years. Lipsey is multi-dimensional lead guard with an ability to fill the box score with a solid mid-range game, an ability to attack off the bounce, solid rebounding prowess, and vision that allows him to create in transition or half-court sets. His range extends beyond the arc and on the defensive end of the floor Lipsey is equally stellar both on and off the ball. Collectively the Iowa high school standout is one of the premier up and coming sophomore in the country and that talent was on display last high school season and in the spring helping him to secure a spot on the 2019 USA U16 National Team where he helped them to a gold medal performance.
Unfortunately for Lipsey the summer didn’t go as planned as he suffered a torn ACL scrimmaging in late June and the highly talented guard whose stock was soaring was forced to take a pause in his development to let everything heal. A two sport standout (track/long jump), Lipsey comes from an athletic family so working through setbacks like this shouldn’t be a problem and sophomore standout indicated last week that the recovery is going very well at this point. Far from a finished product Lipsey is a top 50 caliber prospect who’s just starting his overall ascent nationally.
He holds offers from Nebraska and Iowa State with interest also coming from the likes of Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin at this stage. Equipped with a high level game and blue chip potential, look for the Ames standout to come back better than ever as he promises to be one of the more coveted 2022 prospects in the country moving forward.
He plays with the All Iowa Attack program during the grassroots travel season.
