Mequon, WI – DAY 3 of the NY2LA Sports Next Level Invitational was full of big shots and guys making plays.   Like yesterday here is a recap of those who stood out, those who we saw as stock boosters, and those who might be what some would call sleepers.  And we added a few in who don’t need to be put into one of those categories but definitely deserve to be recognized.   

 

Willert was unconscious on Saturday going for 33 in a win and helped the Comets Elite Squad move on to Sunday.  He hit big shots from deep and had the crowd on their feet with his shooting display. 

 

Clark continued his strong play in the Next Level Invitational Posting a 24point and 12 reb double double early Saturday and coming back with 10 points in the night cap as Team Ramey advanced to Sunday morning.  He has opened eyes this week and looks to be a name to watch. 

 

2020 G Logan McLaughlin – 3D Empire 

McLaughlin missed the spring session of the NY2LA Association due to a broken wrist and while he is still rounding into form its clear to see why he has multiple D1 offers on the table.  In a tough loss to Phenom Universe McLaughlin had 17 points and played great defense.  His ability to score and run a team is evident. 

 

Breakaway’s run ended on Saturday but Jack Kahoun did his part to keep them alive all week.  He finished with 27 points on Saturday in bracket play with 7 made 3 pointers.   He was lights out from deep all week and is a shooter to track going forward. 

 

Gittens is a barrel chested lead guard who hails from the East Coast.  His frame allows him to make defenders bounce off and he pairs it with a tight handle that makes defending him a nightmare.   WI Rap has been one of the top teams through both Association events and his play at the point is a huge reason why they are in the NY2LA Semi Finals.  

 

One of the top teams in the OPEN Division, ET21 can thank the scoring of Millender for helping them advance to Sunday.   He has been consistent in his production and should be a must see for programs in need of guard help.

 

Another year, another appearance in the bracket for the perennial power Illinois Irish.  Mason Muller took the honors on Saturday as they moved on with a solid 13 points in a balanced attack.  These are the guys who help you win championships and when you have 5 of them the ball never stops moving.  Muller was key in getting the Irish into the quarters

 

 

Coming off an injury before the Grassroots season is never easy but Jackson Connor is back on the court and it’s easy to see why he as multiple offers on the table.   The Bears ran a lot their stuff through Connor and with good reason.  He can put it on the floor and finish in transition at the rim and has a nice looking shot as well.   Listed as a 6’6 Point guard he oozes upside and someone is going to get themselves a major piece.  

 

The talented lead guard from Michigan had his game on full display Saturday dropping 21 points as he helped the Michigan Warriors to victory.  He played with good pace and picked his spots to score.  

 

Haney is a guy that screams “MOTOR” when you watch him play.  What is surprising is the level of skill he has to go with that effort.  He dropped triples and attacked the rim with abandon helping the young Yanders team to a quarterfinal appearance on Saturday night.  Haney is just getting started and if the coaches I was sitting with are any indication I would expect his name to be a hot topic on the recruiting trail. 

 

White led the STORM in scoring again with 19 points in an elimination game that was watched by a baseline full of college coaches.  His ability to take contact while getting his sot off was impressive.  Production matters and White has put up multiple big time offensive efforts in the Next Level Invitational.  

 

 

Jones caught my eye earlier this week and upon a 2nd watch it was easy to see why.  He has the length and frame to be an impact guy and Saturday he used that to his advantage.  Team Ramey moved on to Sunday and Jones was terrific as they moved on. 

 

8am games can be hit or miss.  Some teams clearly stayed up too late.  Some are ready to go.  Rackza and Poland let those in the gym know they were ready on Saturday.  With a drive and slam down the lane Rackza put the emphasis on a big win for a fun squad making their first appearance in an NY2LA event.   He is intriguing because of his length on the wing, skill set, and athleticism.  

 

AUSA has multiple teams in this year’s event and each one is different and has different guys that can project at the next level.  Saturday we saw McDonald play his tail off in a tough loss.  He attacked the rim and rebounded well finishing with 15 and 7.  

 

Smith has been steady for one of the toughest teams on the association.  Running the show and knocking down shots has been common place for the guard from WI.   He picked up where he left off on Saturday leading Phenom in scoring in both games.
