One of the higher upside recruits in Illinois’ 2025 class is fresh off a visit to a Big 10 school. Over the weekend, Jonah Funk of El Paso-Gridley High School and MidPro Academy took a visit to Iowa.

“The visit was great,” Funk first said about his trip where he was in attendance for the Hawkeyes game up against Michigan. “It was a true blessing to be there. I really feel like I clicked with Coach Dillard and had a great talk with Coach McCaffery. The experience was surreal and humbling.” The visit comes after Iowa started to be in touch with over the past month. Iowa is very familiar with Funk’s MidPro Academy as they currently have a pair of the grassroots program’s former players on their roster in Owen Freeman and Brock Harding.

In addition to his visit to Iowa, the 6’10” forward holds an offer from Eastern Illinois which came back in July. As well, Belmont, Illinois, North Dakota State, are amongst the schools showing the most interest in him right now. As well to the Iowa visit, he also took a visit to Eastern Illinois this fall.

Behind Funk, El Paso-Gridley currently stands with a 5-2 record. The junior has a highly intriguing blend of size, length, mobility, and skill set. As well to having great physical tools standing at 6’10” he moves very well for his size on the court but has continued to develop his perimeter skills over the past year. The versatile forward is not only highly effective around the paint but can also handle the ball and hit shots from the outside.
