Brad Underwood and staff were once again able to land a prominent commitment. After recently landing a commitment from sophomore Morez Johnson, they have now added a commitment from senior Ty Rodgers. The commitment comes after Rodgers took an official visit down to Champaign back in September.

Rodgers is a 6’7” small forward of Thornton Township High School (IL) and Nike Meanstreets. The senior had recently just transferred to Thornton after previously attending Grand Blanc High School in Michigan where he won a state championship last season.

This is another major recruiting coup for Illinois as Rodgers is a nationally consensus top seventy-five prospect in the 2022 class. He chose the Illini over an incredibly long list of suitors. The other schools in his top nine were Alabama, Marquette, Memphis, Michigan, Michigan State, Rhode Island, UConn, and Xavier. Some of the other schools to have offered Rodgers include Louisville, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Syracuse.

Rodgers marks the third commitment is Illinois 2022 recruitment class. He joins guard Jayden Epps and guard Sencire Harris. With this newest addition, the trio in Illinois 2022 recruitment class ranks as one of the best in the Big Ten.
