Another senior from Illinois is off the board making his college decision. The most recent commitment came from Robbie Avila on Saturday. The 6’9” power forward of Oak Forest High School and the Meanstreets announced his commitment to Indiana State and head coach Josh Schertz off the Missouri Valley Conference.

The senior picked the Sycamores over a long list of mid-major offers. His other scholarship offers included Appalachian State, Bradley, Cleveland State, DePaul, Kent State, Lehigh, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Iowa, Richmond, Southern Illinois, Toledo, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Indiana State is landing one of the most talented 2022 big men in the Midwest. Even at 6’9” he has a well-rounded skill set with his elite passing, ability to handle the ball, and spot up from the perimeter. He is a high IQ player with a good motor that has good feel for the game. Last season as a junior, Avila earned himself 3A All-State honors from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

Avila had been offered by Indiana State back in June. He marks the first commitment in their 2022 recruitment class.
