As 2023 prospects go Ty Pence of St. Joseph-Ogden in Illinois is quickly becoming one of the more highly regarded talents in the Midwest.  Fresh of a scintillating spring and summer campaign with the Mid-Pro Academy program, Pence has seen interest in his game jump substantially and he heads to Butler this weekend for a visit, another school expressing a large amount of interest.

Equipped with a plus length 6-7 near 185 frame wing, Pence was a multi-sport athlete coming up and that versatility and talent shows strongly on the hardwood as he’s evolved into an excellent basketball programs that can impact the game in a variety of ways.  He has the ability to score around the basket and in transition in solid consistent fashion, but his ability to stretch the floor and rip the nets from well beyond that arc has taken his game to another level.  Physically he’s a solid athlete with bounce and he pairs those physical tools with advanced instincts and an old school toughness and grit that makes for a quality prospect at any level.

Look no further than this past summer for evidence as Pence was outstanding time and time again in helping lead Mid-Pro Academy to the 16U Championships at the Grassroots Summer Championships in Florida.  That performance long with many others along the way helped him garner First Team All-Underclassmen honors for the 2021 NY2LA Basketball Association as well as MVP for the 16U age group of the circuit.  A fixture inside the NY2LA Sports platforms for years, Pence’s hard work and determination have seen him go from young man with potential to a full blown elite national prospect who has the potential to play for any school in the country big picture wise and schools are continuing to take notice.

He heads to Butler this weekend for a visit with the staff and that’s fresh off collecting an offer from Iowa State yesterday.  He also holds the same from Illinois, Bradley, Illinois State, UIC, Akron, Eastern Illinois, and Western Illinois with many others kicking the tires and/or starting to elevate their level of interest.  Pence is primed for a big junior year and he stands to be one of the most coveted 2023 prospects in the state of Illinois over the next 10-12 months.
