While he has yet step foot in a high school game, Melvin Bell has already drawn plenty of college interest for himself. The freshman of St. Rita High School in Chicago and Meanstreets has already received three scholarship offers for himself.
Eastern Michigan became the first school to offer him back in June. Since then, Toledo has also offered and most recently Illinois last week too. “It feels great to receive an offer from Illinois because it’s home for me so if I do make that decision my family can come see me play,” Bell said on his offer from the Big 10 school.
Even before reaching high school, the 6’2” guard has impressed on the court. Bell is an athletic guard with a very good scoring ability. He is a skilled slasher that moves well with the ball attacking the basket. While he is incredibly tough to stop off the dribble, Bell also has a smooth jump shot. More than just a scorer, he has shown good ability to defend out on the perimeter with his athleticism and toughness.
“It’s been just great knowing that these school have that much faith in me to offer me at such a young age,” Bell stated on his feeling to already have received multiple offers at this point of his young career.
“I’m looking to improve not just my game but my leadership,” are Bell’s hopes for the future of his game. As part of a talented team at St. Rita, Bell is looking forward to the goal of a winning a state championship.
While the 2025 class in the Midwest has already shown to have plenty of talent, Bell may end up being one of the top prospects in the entire class in the region. As he now enters high school, only look for the offers and interest to only grow for him.
