Army recently landed one of the top uncommitted seniors in all of Illinois. Ethan Roberts of Hersey High School announced his commitment to West Point on twitter. Roberts is a 6’5” guard.

Army was the first division one program to offer Roberts, which happened in January. He was later offered by Navy and Lafayette College, as well to a division two offer from Southern Indiana. Other schools that showed interest in him included Bucknell, Columbia, Cornell, Furman, North Dakota, UC-San Diego, and others.

Roberts had a breakout summer playing with Fundamental U and continued that into his senior season. During his senior season, he averaged 21.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game on his way to first team all-area honors from multiple publications.

“The overall education at West Point is unmatched,” Roberts stated on why he made his pick. He added in “it will set you up for life and have a once in a life time experience surrounded by special people.”

There are several aspects of Army West Point that factored into Robert’s decision. “When I went there I saw what a unique place it was. It was beautiful. The coaching staff are great genuine people that are beyond invested in me.”

When talking about on how Roberts feels attending a service academy, he said “I wasn’t sure how to feel at first but after visiting and learning more about it, I realized the wonderful opportunity it is and the special people to come out.”

Roberts will be joining an Army team that is coming off of a 12-10 season. They advanced to the CBI Tournament this season.
