One of the top big men in Illinois’ class of 2023; Wilfred Kamukama, has recently transferred out of state to Nevada. Kamukama has made the move to Desert Valley Prep after spending his freshman year at Huntley High School.

Kamukama said he transferred due to the uncertainty of a high school season in Illinois right now. In addition to wanting to play against better competition plus improve his game.

The sophomore picked Desert Valley Prep because “they play good nationally ranked schools and gave me the opportunity to play on the national team,” Kamukama said. During his short time out west, he has called the experience a “great learning experience.”

As a 6’9” sophomore, Kamukama already has a high skill level. The lengthy big man has the ability to play in the paint or out on the perimeter. He already has a good ability to knock down perimeter jumpers and handle the ball. Though he would still like to improve his ability attacking the basket as well as “court IQ.”

While just a sophomore, Kamukama has already started to draw college interest from some division one programs. Central Michigan, Mercer, and Nebraska Omaha have all shown interest in him.
