The Chicago Simeon Wolverines arrived at the home of the St. Louis Vashon Wolverines to face off against Hazelwood Central in the Vashon Bragging Rights Shootout. The event pitted top St. Louis teams against top Chicago programs.

The Hawks raced out to an early lead, scoring on transition baskets and controlling the boards. However, it would be Simeon who would find their groove midway through the second quarter, nailing seven second half threes and eventually walking away with a 65-61 victory over Hazelwood Central. The Wolverines trailed by as much as 16 points in the first half.

Here are the top five performers from the game.

2021 Ahamad Bynum Simeon
The junior guard got Simeon going to close out the first half by nailing a trio of 3- pointers off the bounce and driving into the lane to draw defenders and kick to open teammates. He had a total of four first half triples and finished the game with 19 points, 7 boards and four blocks.

2020 Jeremiah Williams Simeon
The second half belonged to Williams. The senior guard turned up the heat on the Hawks by attacking downhill and scoring on some tough half court drives and in transition. The crafty slasher scored 15 second half points and finished the games with 18 points and seven rebounds.

2023 Jalen Griffith Simeon
The speedy Griffith was big for the Wolverines off the bench. The freshman would help the offensive effort of Simeon during the first half spotting up for three 3-point field goals in the second quarter. It would be the combined effort of Bynum and Griffith bombing away from three and alternating on the drive and kick that would bring the Wolverines back from sixteen points down. Griffith finished the game with a total of 15 points including four three pointers.

2021 Jonathan Dunn Hazelwood Central
As the Hawks offense began to sputter in the third quarter, it would be the rebounding and inside play of Dunn that would keep the Hawks in the battle. Dunn would require the attention of multiple defenders to keep him in check. The junior forward scored 11 points in the quarter and ended the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

2020 Dave Roberts Hazelwood Central
The senior guard used his strength, athleticism and speed to score transition and second chance baskets. Roberts muscled up rebounds and found openings to attack downhill for easy layups. He finished the game with 12 points.
