Winona State landed a potential steal over the weekend as 2020 SF Malik Abdul-Wahid of Brookfield Central High School in Wisconsin gave them a verbal pledge.  A young prospect for his class, Malik has been soaring since delivering a stellar spring and summer campaign with the Wisconsin based Ray Allen Select program in the NY2LA Basketball Association.  We caught up with the 6-5 plus length wing to discuss his commitment…

NY2LA:  Why did you choose Winona State?
ABDUL-WAHID:  They really stood out to me because of how seriously they take academics there.  The classroom and my future off the court is very important to me and they make that a priority along with the basketball program.

NY2LA:  What did you like about the coaching staff at Winona State the most?
ABDUL-WAHID:  Coach Eisner has a lot of experience and they have one of the best skill developers in the country at the D2 level in Coach Malvik.  I really like where they are headed and believe in what they are trying to do.

NY2LA:  What can Winona State fans expect from you when you arrive?
ABDUL-WAHID:  They can expect someone who’s going to work their tail off and hopefully I can help the program win a national championship.

A versatile wing who has bloomed late and become one of the more coveted 2020 prospects in the Midwest at the D2 level, Malik Abdul-Wahid can fill the box score.  His range extends beyond the arc, he’s improved in the open court, and he has solid athleticism and plus length making for a highly intriguing prospect at the next level.  Still young for his class, Malik’s best basketball is in front of him and his commitment to Winona State is an absolute steal for the program if he continues to develop and produce in the direction he’s trending.  Congrats Malik!
