With over 25 Division 1 schools offering him a scholarship Baylor Hebb had quite the decision to make.  Recently he committed to Head Coach Porter Moster and Loyola-Chicago.  We caught up with him to discuss his commitment to play at Loyola-Chicago…

NY2LA - Why Loyola?

HEBB - From the first day they recruited me they had a vision for me, and saw what I brought to the game. They have a culture that prioritizes winning and player development which were the two most important pieces for me in the recruiting process. Coach Moser has thrived with players similar to me like Clayton Custer and Marques Townes who were both Player of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference.

NY2LA - You committed to them with a couple of big visits still to go at Saint Louis and Colorado. What was the visit to Loyola like?

HEBB - They only had 1 scholarship available for 2020, so I knew if I fell in love with the school that I needed to act quickly. The visit was great, the players welcomed me in from the start, and I bonded well with all of the players and could see myself playing with these guys in the future. Another great part of the visit is obviously the city of Chicago. There is nothing like the energy and the love of sport there.

NY2LA - You came into April with 1 or 2 offers and in a matter of 90 days finished July with over 25 schools that offered you. What was that like?

HEBB - I always knew that they would come if I kept outworking my peers. Every game I wanted to go out and kill who I was going against to prove that I belonged with the best. With that mindset it all worked out!

NY2LA - Can you talk about what it was like playing on the NY2LA circuit, being one of the first teams from Texas to join. And does that help you coming to Loyola?

HEBB - I loved playing in the NY2LA Basketball Association! I think that it provides a platform that any kid desires. There’s tons of coaches from all levels in attendance, so if you preform you won’t go unnoticed. I think other teams from Texas and the South will see the success 3D Empire had and will want to be involved in the circuit.

NY2LA - So now that you committed what’s the plan for your senior year?

HEBB - My main goals are to win district and make a run in the playoffs. My personal goals are to be the best leader I can be, because we have a young group. And I’m shooting for ALL STATE.

Hebb was the offensive player of the year in the NY2LA Association.  His recruitment exploded after a strong April and an outstanding July.  More than just a shooter, Hebb combines elite skill with a high IQ and it’s easy to see him being an impact player at the next level.   Loyola and Coach Moser got a good one in this young man.  Congrats Baylor!
